Pattern Name: Dove in the Window or Duck Paddle
Age: 1880s - 1900
Quilting: Self Quilted
Material: red, blue, and chrome yellow cotton calico and shirting cottons
Measurements: 74"x76"
Heritage: This quilt was found in Pennsylvania. It is an exquisite example of fussy or self-quilting. The quilt features beautiful blue, red, and chrome yellow calico with an unexpectedly green square in the center of the design. This is truly remarkable as green was notoriously fugitive and not color-fast. There are several different fussy quiltling stitches both in the pattern across the sash and block sides. It is truly a unique and historical piece.
Condition: Overall the piece is in excellent condition. It is so very soft and the colors vibrant and sure. There are a few stray dark spots here and there but nothing overly noticeable. There are some signs of wear characteristic with the textile's age, but overall a truly lovely and exquisite piece.
