Pattern Name: Mill Wheel
Age: 1890s-1910
Quilting: hand-quilted with a Baptish fan stitching; hand-pieced
Material: turkey red, blue, and white solid and printed calico shirting, brown piecing, and gingham feed sack backing
Measurements: 72x64
Heritage: This quilt was found in Ohio. This dark and moody quilt is really quite amazing, as is the gingham homespun backing. There are a variety of calicos throughout the quilt and my personal favorite is the red dashes in the sash and block pattern between the squares. There are pinks, cinnamon reds, turkey reds, wax resist calico, GREY and even BROWN dyed solid calicos. This is truly a unique and beautiful quilt.
Condition: Overall the piece is in good condition for its age. There are a few seam separations and a few spots of fabric wear to some of the backing. This is normal given the age of the piece. The piece is soft and sturdy. It's really quite a solid workhorse of a quilt. There are a few larger dye stains (see pictures) and some holes and separations along the bottom edge of the quilt. Overall, the quilt is still in great condition. Great care was taken to store and care for the quilt. With proper care, it will last many more years.
