Pattern Name: Sunflower
Age: 1890s - 1910s
Quilting: utility quilting and self quilting throughout - hand pieced and hand quilted
Material: cotton calico, shirting material, and muslin backing
Measurements: 84x60
Heritage: This quilt was found in Kansas. This quilt is really special! The juxtaposition of the 1800s double pink calico with the dark blue indigo calico is really gorgeous. The sunflowers themselves are lovely and pieced with such care. The dark blue on the border is really unique and an excellent touch. There are some signs of early mending, and I completely understand! This is such a special quilt and my youngest's personal favorite.
Condition: Overall the piece is in good condition for its age. There are some places on the sunflowers were the fabric is wearing and there are some mends (see images). The border is fraying. With just a little bit of care, this quilt could be completely restored. It is strong and quite sturdy - a wonderful workhorse! Overall, great care was taken to store and care for the quilt. With proper care, it will last many more years.
